Dear Rosemary McLeod → theladygarden.org

“Moreover, huge amounts of society does labour that involves unenjoyable activities/using their body/being unhappy with their whole job. This is capitalism, Rosemary. People are generally required to work due to economic need. The same is generally true of sex workers (who, by the way, are not just ‘women’). As through all of society, you see negative aspects of sex work.”

“Having dirty feet is not a reason to write off somebody’s entire lived experience, Rosemary, coz here’s the thing about lived experience: you cannot know what it’s like until you’ve lived it. You are not allowed to tell hookers what we should be doing with our lives without actually knowing our lives.”

REMEMBER THE LADIES: "Are women people?" → remembertheladies.tumblr.com

feministdisney:

on The Hairpin today: a pretty cool collection of suffragist poems from 1915. Kind of funny- and sad- that so much of this social commentary could pass as modern discourse if presented without context?? That’s almost a century ago! My favorites below.

“Whenever a conscious Black woman raises her voice on issues central to her existence, somebody is going to call her strident, because they don’t want to hear about it, nor us. I refuse to be silenced and I refuse to be trivialized, even if I do not say what I have to say perfectly.” —Audre Lorde  (via thenewwomensmovement)

“Slut” is how we vilify a woman for exercising her right to say “yes”. “Friendzone” is how we vilify a woman for exercising her right to say “no”.” —(via thechocolatebrigade)

“As we mark the 39th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, we must remember that this Supreme Court decision not only protects a woman’s health and reproductive freedom, but also affirms a broader principle: that government should not intrude on private family matters. I remain committed to protecting a woman’s right to choose and this fundamental constitutional right. While this is a sensitive and often divisive issue—no matter what our views, we must stay united in our determination to prevent unintended pregnancies, support pregnant woman and mothers, reduce the need for abortion, encourage healthy relationships, and promote adoption. And as we remember this historic anniversary, we must also continue our efforts to ensure that our daughters have the same rights, freedoms, and opportunities as our sons to fulfill their dreams.” —
