Step 1 - this is a concept!
The vision:
The Collective is open to all self-identified Wellington feminists who are interested in a feminist social club. Ideally, The Collective will compliment the already fantastic feminist groups operating in Wellington such as the Feminist Queer Book Club, M I N G E, the Victoria University Women’s Group, a variety of women’s political branches, and abortion law reform groups.
The point of difference is that first and foremost The Collective will be a social group. It’s focus being young women, though women of all ages are welcome and encouraged to join. The Collective will not be affiliated to any political party, and will have a broad agenda of advocacy, action, guerrilla art, discussion, debate, crafts, food and drink and generally providing a fun and relaxing space. The ‘space’ would ideally rotate between kind members who were happy to host. As the group grows, fundraisers or special interest events would be held at event venues.
The aim would be for The Collective to throw its support behind initiatives from the sister groups listed above, as well as regularly have their own initiatives on a broad range of topics.
The Collective would be facilitated rather than ‘run’ by any members interested in taking up a role, ideally there would be a cluster of women with a variety of skills facilitating, with the opportunity for anyone to bring an initiative and enact it with the group’s support.
This vision is organic, and will evolve with the more people that have suggestions. Please join and invite your friends here http://www.facebook.com/?sk=2361831622#!/group.php?gid=157689807586958. The first meeting will be held in early November for ideas, meet and greats, food, wine and funtimes.
