The Wellington Young Feminists' Collective

A social group of like-minded people who share information and hold events relevant to gender equity in New Zealand. You can also find us on Facebook and Twitter.

Open to all self-identified Wellington feminists (and supporters from elsewhere) who are interested in a feminist social club. Come and play, we're a fun bunch!

About

The Wellington Young Feminists’ Collective has three functions:

Social – We are first and foremost a social group for feminists.

Learning – We are a place for feminists to share ideas, knowledge and encourage discussions.

Activism – We support a variety of activism on feminist issues.

We also run the anti-street harassment website http://wellington.ihollaback.org/

Members can be involved with all or any functions that interest them. As we are primarily a social group, all activities are informal and we believe women having fun together and sharing knowledge is inherently powerful. Not all activities, events and learning will be on explicitly feminist topics.

Not all of our members are women, and we believe that ‘feminist issues’ are everybody’s issues. However, as one of the functions of this group is learning about and working toward improving things that are important to women, or currently disadvantage women, many of our posts will be aimed at, about, or primarily relevant to women. This is our prerogative to do so, and if this alienates you then it’s likely the WYFC is not a great fit for you.

We do not claim to represent all women or all feminists and not all members have to agree with everything in the Collective.

Our Vision

The WYFC is a social group open to all self-identified feminists. Men, Trans* folk and people of all ages are welcome.

We aim to create a space to hear young women’s voices and to foster discussion around issues that are important to us. We hold events and activities which promote the importance of feminism, find power in the company of like-minded people, and generally have a good time.

The Collective celebrates diversity, differences of opinions and ideologies and does not require any level of academia or ‘card-carrying’ feminism. Members do however, all need to self-identify with (or be interested in learning about) feminism, and be able to agree to disagree in discussions.

If you would like to join, you can ‘like’ us at over on our Facebook page.
